from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Verlag Anton Schroll & Co. is an Austrian publisher specializing in art literature, based in Vienna .

The publishing house was founded on January 17, 1884 by Anton Schroll (1854–1919) as "Verlagbuchhandlung Anton Schroll & Co." with Paul Krebs from Berlin as a partner who left in 1899. Anton Schroll retired from managing the publishing house in 1913. The publishing house was then partially owned by the Reisser family of printers and publishers in 1931, and the Fromme and LW Seidel publishers were incorporated. In 1973 the publishing house became the property of the Geyer printer family (Agens Werk Geyer + Reisser).

Initially the publisher only had a limited license for “applied arts sample sheets”, but in 1890 this was expanded to include “works of art literary content”. The publishing house played a key role in the spread of Viennese Art Nouveau , for example the magazines “ Der Architekt ” (1895–1908; 1916–1922), “Das Interieur” (1900–1915) and “Die bildenden Künste” (1918) -1922). From 1905 Schroll published the “Yearbook of the kk Central Commission for Research and Conservation of Art and Historical Monuments” (later “ Austrian Journal for Art and Monument Preservation ”, until 2002), from 1907 the “ Austrian Art Topography ”. In addition to works of art history, other scientific and literary works were also published, such as the complete edition of Franz Grillparzer's works from 1909 to 1948 .
