from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Schönthal (* 10. August 1878 in Vienna , † 31 December 1961 ) was an Austrian architect of Art Deco .

Live and act

Otto Schönthal studied from 1898 to 1901 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Otto Wagner . At that time he was already working as a freelance architect. In 1909 he left Otto Wagner's office, in which he had previously worked for several years, and founded his own office with two other Wagner's master students. Their collaboration was very successful and they not only realized numerous buildings, but also worked in the field of interior architecture and furniture design. Marcel Kammerer left after the First World War. Otto Schönthal continued to run the office with Emil Hoppe , under whose influence he turned to the Art Deco style. He worked as the editor of the magazine "Der Architekt". In 1939 he emigrated to Switzerland and later to Yugoslavia. After the war he again ran his own office in Vienna. He was buried at the Hietzingen cemetery .
