The Dessauer was a single-seat glider from the Dessau Aviation Technology Association from 1923, which was rebuilt as Der alten Dessauer by the Aviation Science Working Group Cöthen (Fluwiac) modified.

History and construction

The aircraft was created as a design by Ludwig Hoffmann as a further development of the privy council . The semi-cantilevered shoulder wing - supported only with a short rubber-sprung strut made of dural against the main fuselage bulkhead - had a two-part wing with a double-T-shaped main spar , two auxiliary spars and a two-layer torsion nose covered with plywood . The rest of the wing was covered with fabric. The differentiated ailerons, each 1.66 m² in size, were linked with bumpers. The plywood-clad hull with a central runner under the hull boat and steel grinding spur at the stern had a hexagonal cross-section up to the main rib and then a pentagonal cross-section. The tail in normal arrangement consisted of a muted height and vertical tail with fabric-covered rowing.

The Dessau won prizes at the Rhön competition in 1923, but was badly damaged on August 30, 1923 when Otto R. Thomsen landed after swinging the wings in stormy weather. The aeronautical research group Cöthen (Fluwiac) acquired the remains of the aircraft and rebuilt it with some modifications under the name Der alten Dessauer . The rubber suspension in the wing struts was omitted, as this was seen as the cause of the wing vibration. The first flight took place by Hübner on August 26, 1924 from the Wasserkuppe .

After the Rhön competitions in 1923/1924, Otto Fuchs flew in October 1924 during the first Italian gliding competition from Monte Sisemol near Asiago , in February 1925 at the Zugspitz competition from Kochelberg and in May 1924 won the third coastal flight competition near Rossitten with a flight of 7.45 hours . After further competitions at Rossitten and Koktebel and annually in the Rhön, the old Dessauer broke there in 1928.
