reception

Thomas Hummitzsch writes at Tagesspiegel that the reader hardly comes close to the protagonist in the stories. He is always alone “and when someone speaks to him, he is quickly overwhelmed. The dialogues or inner monologues therefore remain strangely wooden and even Taniguchi's drawings, which are often so enchanting, appear static and awkward. ”The reader is offered a comprehensive insight into Japanese cuisine, not only in restaurants, but also in supermarkets and backyard kitchens. But it remains "with insight, fascination or even curiosity are hardly aroused here." Splashcomics rated the comic as a "lovable and exciting guide through the culinary delights in the Tokyo area"
