The dog is a monthly German magazine of the Forum Zeitschriften und Spezialmedien GmbH. It was published by Deutsches Bauernverlag Berlin until the beginning of 2013 . As early as 1876 there was a journal with this title in Leipzig and Dresden, which the authors considered worthy of a mention in Meyer's Großes Konversations-Lexikon . That was the first cynological magazine in Germany. In the course of its history, Der Hund was the association journal of the respective dog associations and, as such, reflects the eventful history of the German dog industry.

history

In the course of German history there were several magazines with the title Der Hund , some of which saw themselves as successor magazines , but some of which were precisely that and did not want to be.

On April 1, 1876, Der Hund was Germany's first cynological magazine. In the same year, Der Zoologischer Garten wrote about the magazine : “The dog, organ for breeders and lovers of pure races. Edited by R. v. Schmiedeberg. Leipzig. V. Wolff. There are already 11 issues of this magazine. With each number an excellent animal is depicted and its history is communicated. Traits from the life of the dog, news about exhibitions and races, offers and inquiries about dogs then fill the rest of the paper, which is characterized by good posture. ”The directory of writings on zoology from 1905 shows that the dog ab Published by Jenne in Leipzig in 1877. The booklets up to volume 5, year 1880, are listed there. 24 issues appeared per year. The long title mentioned there is called “The dog. Organ for breeders u. Lovers of pure races. With illustrations and Contributions from excellent connoisseurs. Red .: R. v. Schmiedeberg. “The magazine is recorded until 1891. At that time it was published by Paul Wolff in Dresden-Blasewitz.

From 1926 to 1936 Der Hund was published by the Berlin publisher Gersbach & Sohn . It had the subtitle of an independent magazine for practical and scientific cynology, for dog sports and dog keeping . Most recently it was published by the Reich Association for the German Dog System (RDH). In 1937 the RDH became the “Reichsfachgruppe Deutsches Hundewesen eV in the Reich Association of German Small Animal Breeders”. So in 1937 the magazines Die Hundewelt , Der Hund und Mensch und Hund were merged and from 1937 appeared monthly as Die Hundewelt . The RDH announcements appeared as a supplement from 1937 to 1943. The dog world was the “official organ of the Reichsfachgruppe Deutsches Hundewesen e. V. (RDH) ". The association magazine Our Rassehund of the VDH , which appeared from 1949, is its successor. The dog world appeared until 1943 and was then discontinued.

From 1952 the dog appeared in the GDR with the German farmers publishing house. According to the division of the dog breeding clubs into service and working dog clubs that belonged to the Society for Sport and Technology (GST) and the other clubs that belonged to the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid (VdgB), there were two issues. Edition A, service and working dog breeds was published by the GST, Edition B, dog breeds in the association of the KSK was published by the VdgB Zentralverband, Zuchtgemeinschaft Jungs. (KSK stands for allotment gardeners, settlers and small animal breeders, see VKSK .) After the service and working dog clubs were removed from the GST in 1961 and incorporated into the VKSK as the service and working dog section, edition A became the service and working dog section and published by the association of allotment gardeners, settlers and small animal breeders . From 1974 onwards, Der Hund no longer appeared in separate editions. The VKSK was the publisher until 1990. In spring 2013 the publisher changed. Until then, the German farmer publishing house had published the magazine, then it was taken over by Forum Zeitschriften und Spezialmedien GmbH.
