Der Internist is a medical journal published by Springer Medizin Verlag . It is aimed at resident internists working in the clinic as well as practitioners and general practitioners who are particularly interested in internal medicine . The magazine reaches around 40,000 readers, making it the largest German-speaking specialist magazine. It is published in cooperation with the German Society for Internal Medicine and the Professional Association of German Internists and appears twelve times a year.

The core of each issue are articles on a key topic. Case reports show case studies and unusual courses of illness or treatment. Articles under the heading "CME: Further Education - Certified Further Education" offer reliable results of scientific research and make medical experience usable for daily practice. The reader can review the knowledge they have acquired by reading these articles and receive CME points online .
