Hendrik Lehnert (* 1954 in Karlstad , Sweden ) is a German internist . From 2014 to 2017 he was President of the University of Lübeck . He has been the rector of the University of Salzburg since October 1, 2019 .

Life

Hendrik Lehnert went to school in the Ruhr area , and in 1972 he graduated from the Petrinum Recklinghausen grammar school . He then studied psychology and human medicine at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . After completing his doctorate , he did research in 1982/83 as a DFG fellow at the Laboratory of Neuroendocrine Regulation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the Cardiovascular Laboratory of the Harvard School of Public Health and worked at the University Polyclinic in Münster until 1986 . He then moved to the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Mainz University Clinic , where he worked as a specialist in internal medicine and completed his habilitation in internal medicine at the University of Mainz in 1991 .

From 1994 to 2005 he was director of the Clinic for Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg , and in 2005 he moved to the Medical School of the University of Warwick . Since 2007 he has been director of the I. Medical Clinic at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein , with an interruption from 2014 to 2017. During this time he was President of the University of Lübeck . In May 2018 he was elected to the board of the German Diabetes Society (DDG).

On 21 February 2019 he was appointed by University Council elected Rector of the University of Salzburg. He succeeded Heinrich Schmidinger in this role on October 1, 2019 .

Lehnert has published more than 600 articles in specialist journals and is the editor of more than ten books, including textbooks on internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism and the specialist journal Der Internist .
