Hans-Peter Schuster

Hans-Peter Schuster (born July 17, 1937 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German internist and university professor .

Live and act

Hans-Peter Schuster graduated from high school in 1957 . He then served between 1957 and 1958; he fulfilled his conscription . He then studied philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main between 1958 and 1959 . From 1959 to 1965 he studied medicine in Thuringia, Vienna and Marburg . On February 8, 1965, he passed his state examination at the Philipps University of Marburg . Between 1965 and 1967 he was a medical assistant until he received his license to practice medicine on April 30, 1967 . In 1968 he received his doctorate in medicine from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . He wrote his dissertation on the examinations of kidney function under osmotic diuresis in patients with healthy cardiovascular disease and in patients with heart failure .

Under Paul Schölmerich he was a research assistant at the 2nd Medical Clinic and Polyclinic of the University of Mainz. He held this position between 1969 and 1973.

In 1971 he received a research grant from the German Research Foundation at the Department of Physiology at Wayne State University . This scholarship lasted until 1972. His professors were Werner Seeger and Eberhard F. Mammen .

On November 3, 1973 he was recognized as a specialist in internal medicine . In 1974 he was the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz habilitation . His professorial dissertation had the Pathogenesis of acute renal failure after shock considering the dissiminierten intravascular coagulation on the subject. Two years later he became a professor at the University of Mainz. He held this post until 1974.

From 1975 he was a senior physician , under Paul Schölmerich, at the 2nd Medical Clinic and Polyclinic. In 1978 he became the first senior physician and deputy head of the clinic. After Schölmerich retired in 1981 , Schuster took over the management of the clinic. He held this post until 1982; then he became the first senior physician and deputy head of the clinic again, because J. Meyer was appointed head of the clinic.

On June 2, 1981, he became a specialist in cardiology and on February 2, a specialist in nephrology .

On September 1, 1983, he was chief physician at the Medical Clinic I at the Municipal Hospital in Hildesheim . The hospital also serves as a teaching hospital for the Hannover Medical School . He held the post of chief physician until July 31, 2002.

In 1986 he became an adjunct professor of medicine at the Hannover Medical School.

In 1990 he received the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine .

Schuster as editor

Schuster is the publisher of the specialist journal Der Internist , where he is responsible for the “training” section . He was also involved in the journal Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine between 1985 and 2009 . From 1996 to 2009 he was the coordinating editor. He is also co-editor of the journal Emergency Medicine and Medical Clinic . He was also a member of the advisory board of the journals Intensive Care Medicine , Der Anesthesist , Haemostaseologie , Infusion Therapy and Clinical Nutrition and the clinical weekly magazine .

Honorary memberships

Schuster has been an honorary member of the German Society for Internal Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine since 2004 and an honorary member of the Austrian Society for General and Internal Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine since 2005.

Membership in scientific societies

Since the founding of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine in 1977, Schuster was a member of the Presidium ; he left this in 1987. From 1995 to 2004 he was Vice President of this association.

After the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine was founded in 1982, he was its Vice President until 1986. He was then a member of the Executive Committee between 1986 and 1990 .

In addition, from 1986 Schuster was President of the German Society for Internal Intensive Care Medicine. He held this position until 1989. Before that, he had been the Society's secretary between 1981 and 1986 .

Schuster was also chairman of the German Society for Internal Medicine from 1992 to 1993 . He also has a seat on the company's committee. In 2001 he was elected Secretary General of the German Society for Internal Medicine .

He was also until 1999 a member of the Board of the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences , the German Society for Cardiology - Cardiovascular Research , the German Society for Nutritional Medicine, the Swiss Society for Intensive Care Medicine and the Austrian Society for Emergency and Disaster Medicine.

Awards

In 1995 Schuster was awarded the Rudolf Frey Medal for his special services in emergency medicine . In 1996 there was also the honorary plaque from the Lower Saxony Medical Association . A year later, he received the Golden Badge of Honor from the German Medical Congress. The EK Frey Gold Medal, which was donated by Bayer AG in 1989 to honor outstanding achievements in the field of intensive care medicine , was awarded to him in 1998. The award is presented by the German Society for Internal Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine. In 1999 Schuster received the Ludolph Brauer Memorial Medal, which is awarded by the Northwest German Society for Internal Medicine.
