Werner Seeger

Werner Seeger (born November 6, 1953 in Herford ) is a German physician, scientist and pulmonologist . Since 2006 he has been the medical director of the University Hospital Gießen and Marburg and since 2011 chairman of the German Center for Lung Research .

Life

Werner Seeger studied medicine in Münster and Giessen . From 1979 to 1982 he was a research assistant and assistant doctor at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry at the Justus Liebig University of Gießen (JLU), then from 1982 to 1987 at the Medical Clinic of the JLU . In 1987, Seeger completed his habilitation in Giessen with a thesis on "Internal Medicine and Pathophysiology" and became senior physician in the same year . In 1991 he was appointed professor and head of the clinical research group “Respiratory Insufficiency” at JLU and in 1996 he was appointed professor for internal medicine / pulmonology.

In 2000 he became Managing Director of the Center for Internal Medicine at JLU and in 2006 Medical Director of the University Clinic in Giessen and Marburg . Seeger has been on the board of directors of the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim since 2007 and has been chairman of the German Center for Lung Research since 2011 .

From 1999 to 2001 Seeger was President of the German Society for Internal Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine , from 2001 to 2002 President of the German Society for Pneumology and from 2005 to 2006 President of the German Society for Internal Medicine . From 1997 to 2009 he was the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center “Cardiopulmonary Vascular System”, from 2002 to 2009 a member of the DFG Senate Commission for Clinical Research and from 2003 to 2009 a member of the Science Council . Since 2012 Werner Seeger has also been involved as a member of the scientific advisory board of the Association against Tobacco for the prevention of smoking at school level by medical students. He is a member of various international and national specialist societies, including the Leopoldina , committees and commissions, and is considered one of the most renowned lung specialists.
