Jürgen Schüttler

Jürgen Schüttler (born December 19, 1953 in Bonn ) is a German anesthetist and former dean of the medical faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Live and act

After attending elementary school and the Kardinal-Frings-Gymnasium in Bonn, Schüttler graduated from high school in 1973 . From 1971 to 1973 he successfully participated in the Jugend forscht competition and won several state winners' prizes. In 1974 he began studying medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn . After obtaining his license to practice medicine in 1980 and a doctorate to become Dr. med. In 1982, with a thesis on the clinical pharmacokinetics of fentanyl with special consideration of a respiratory rebound phenomenon , he worked as an assistant doctor and scientist at the University of Bonn and at Stanford University in Palo Alto (USA). In 1986 , Schüttler qualified as a professor in Bonn for anaesthesiology with a thesis on pharmacokinetic and dynamic modeling for the intravenous anesthetics ketamine, etomidate and propofol . In 1991 he was appointed professor and held the position of senior consultant at the anesthesiological university clinic in Bonn. Since 1995 Schüttler has been full professor of anesthesiology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and director of the anesthesiological clinic at the University Hospital Erlangen . Since 2008 he has been Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Schüttler was secretary of the German Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI) from 2001 to 2008 and its president and vice-president from 2008 to 2011 and headed the German Anesthesia Congress in Nuremberg in 2010 .
