Rudolf Frey (doctor)

Rudolf Frey (born August 22, 1917 in Heidelberg ; † December 23, 1981 in Mainz ) was a German physician, anesthetist and founder of the Club of Mainz .

Frey studied in Munich , Tübingen , Freiburg im Breisgau , Strasbourg and Heidelberg , where he became a member of the Vineta fraternity . He taught as a private lecturer in Heidelberg from 1942 to 1952 and was one of the pioneers of European anesthesiology . In 1956 he became an adjunct professor in Heidelberg. In 1960 Frey was the first professor in Germany for this area in Mainz . Here he developed numerous programs that established his international standing in anesthesiology, resuscitation, intensive, emergency and disaster medicine, in pain treatment and in problems of ethics . Frey is well represented in international literature with extensive scientific work on all questions in his field. Accident rescue with helicopters and ambulances was developed on his initiative .

In addition to many honors, membership and honorary memberships of professional associations in France , England , Italy , USA , Japan and South Africa , including the Committee of Cardiopulmonal Reanimation , which he heads , the World Federation of Anesthesia Societies Pittsburgh , he founded and led the Club of Mainz from 1971 , today's World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine , an organization for global emergency and disaster medicine . Since 1990, the German Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine has awarded the Rudolf Frey Medal for special services in emergency medicine.

In 1952 he was the founding editor of the magazine Der Anästhesist with Otto Mayrhofer and Werner Hügin and in 1955 he published the first German-language anesthesia textbook with Mayrhofer and Hügin.
