Peter von Wichert

Peter von Wichert (born September 30, 1935 in Riga ) is a German internist and emeritus director of the medical outpatient clinic at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Professional background

From 1953 to 1958, Peter von Wichert studied medicine at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg and at the Magdeburg Medical Academy , where he also received his doctorate in 1959 . He then took on a two-year activity at the Institute for Normal and Pathological Physiology at the University of Cologne . From 1963 he was assistant and senior physician at the first medical clinic at the Eppendorf University Medical Center in Hamburg , where he completed his habilitation in 1970 . In 1981 he was appointed full professor and director of the Medical Polyclinic of the Philipps University of Marburg . From 1992 to 1995 Wichert was President of the German Society for Internal Intensive Care Medicine. After a one-year presidency (1997/1998) of the German Society for Internal Medicine , he was Vice President of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies ( AWMF ) from 1999 to 2009 .

His scientific focus is on research into the pathophysiology of lung diseases . Peter von Wichert is an honorary member of the German Society for Internal Medicine and has been a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina since 1995 . In 2015 he received the Ernst von Bergmann plaque from the German Medical Association.
