Wolfgang Hiddemann

Wolfgang Hiddemann (born May 18, 1949 in Cologne ) is a German hematologist and oncologist and professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Life

From 1968 to 1974 Hiddemann studied human medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster . After completing the medical state examination , he worked as an assistant doctor at the University Hospital in Münster from 1975 , where he was recognized as a specialist in internal medicine in 1985 . During this time he undertook a research stay at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York from 1978 to 1979 . In 1986 he was appointed senior physician and a year later was also given a temporary professorship in Münster. In 1988 the specialization for hematology and internal oncology followed. In 1992 he was appointed director of the department for hematology and oncology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . From 1998 to 2017 Hiddemann was director of the Medical Clinic III at the Ludwig Maximilians University Hospital in Munich . In 1999, on his initiative, the non-profit association "Lebensmut - Leben mit Krebs eV" was founded, which is committed to promoting psycho-oncological care for patients and their relatives.

Act

In his scientific work, Hiddemann is primarily concerned with the pathogenesis and therapy of acute lymphatic and acute myeloid leukemia as well as low-grade lymphomas . Accordingly, he is the head of several multicenter study groups , was at times the spokesman for various special research areas and, among other things, is also the location spokesman for Munich within the "German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research". Hiddemann is represented on the editorial board of several specialist journals, including the Annals of Oncology , Der Internist , the German Medical Weekly and Leukemia . He is also a member of various specialist societies such as the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology or the German Cancer Aid Foundation .
