The man with the death mask (English original title: The Crimson Ghost ) is a film serial from 1946.
action
The Crimson Ghost is a criminal whose identity is unknown to anyone. He tries to get possession of the Cyclotrode ray cannon and orders his henchmen to get hold of the deadly weapon or parts of it. He communicates via radio . His lackeys all wear a collar, which kills the wearer remotely if commands from the Crimson Ghost are ignored. The collar also serves as a booby trap . Duncan and Diana thwart the Crimson Ghost's plan in each chapter. Nevertheless, he is aware of any progress in the development of the weapon.
background
A theatrical version was created from the material in the 1960s. Two versions of this version still exist today; in Germany a 77-minute version cut with scenes of violence, in the USA the equivalent of 96 minutes. In May 2018 a DVD was released in Germany that includes these two variants.
Influence on popular culture
The figure of the Crimson Ghost is still mainly represented as a Halloween costume in the USA. Other known references:
- The band Misfits uses the skull of the Crimson Ghost as a logo.
- The Crimson Ghost also appears in Iron Maiden's music video for " The Number of the Beast ".
- In the 2007 film Halloween , a boy is apparently disguised as a Crimson Ghost.
