The noon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mittag - Zeitung für Rhein und Ruhr was a daily newspaper appearing in Düsseldorf . Contrary to what is usual today in the morning of the respective day, the newspaper, according to its name, appeared at noon. Its layout corresponded to a tabloid and appeared daily from May 15, 1920.

The publisher Heinrich Droste acted as editor . The newspaper, which was successfully sold on the street, soon had a circulation of 50,000 copies. The newspaper aimed at a middle-class readership and did not completely lose its liberal face even during the National Socialist dictatorship. With the beginning of the Second World War in 1939, the supplement Das Geistige Leben was banned. The newspaper was last published on August 31, 1944. After an interruption of a good five years, however, it resumed its work on October 29, 1949. In the meantime, the newspaper switched to Axel Springer Verlag . This pursued the strategy of expanding the area of publication of the noon to all of North Rhine-Westphalia . The long-established Cologne publisher M. DuMont Schauberg reacted to this idea with the publication of the Express , which appeared for the first time on March 2, 1964. The associated advertising campaign led to the plans being withdrawn and ultimately to the abandonment of lunch . Its publication was discontinued on September 20, 1967.

The editors included the writers Willy EJ Schneidrzik , Herbert Eulenberg and Otto Brües .
