Willy Erich Josef Schneidrzik ( pseudonyms : Thomas Bruckner , Dr. med. Fabian , Gerd Hafner , Peter Sartorik , Peter Sebastian ; born September 10, 1915 in Berlin ; † January 9, 2007 in Cologne ) was a German thoracic surgeon and writer.

Life

Willy EJ Schneidrzik was the son of a businessman. He attended the Falk-Realgymnasium in Berlin-Tiergarten , where he passed the school leaving examination in 1936. He then studied medicine at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . In 1941 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. After participating in World War II and being released from American captivity, Schneidrzik worked from 1945 as an assistant doctor to Erich von Redwitz at the Bonn University Hospital . During a one-year study visit to Great Britain (Liverpool, Bristol, London) in 1948 he specialized in the field of thoracic surgery , in which he was mainly active after his return to Bonn. From 1953 to 1957 he was senior physician in surgery at the Cologne University Hospital and from 1957 to 1959 head of the plastic surgery department at the Cologne University Skin Clinic.

After he had occasionally written columnist articles for the Düsseldorfer newspaper Der Mittag in the first post-war years , Schneidrzik wrote numerous medical articles for the illustrated Revue and Bunte in the 1950s . In addition, he wrote his first novels from the hospital environment. When the critical novels Kaserne Krankenhaus (1956) and Der Chefarzt (1959) appeared and the pseudonym was exposed, Schneidrzik lost his position and official status. He then opened a surgical doctor's practice in Cologne in 1959, which he ran until 1972.

Between 1964 and 1982 he delivered one novel per month under the pseudonym “Gerd Hafner” for the doctor's novel series “Dr. Thomas Bruckner ”from Bastei Verlag . The total circulation of these 239 works, which can be assigned to trivial literature, was already more than 10 million copies at the end of the 1980s. In the years that followed, Schneidrzik wrote a number of medical non-fiction books for laypeople as well as a weekly medical advice column in the program magazine Prisma until 2000 .

Willy EJ Schneidrzik was a member of the German Society for Surgery and the International Society of Surgery .
