The revolutionary
Der Revoluzzer is a political poem by Erich Mühsam from 1907. Mühsam uses his poems to refer to events of his time. The subtitle “Dedicated to German Social Democracy” shows his criticism of the then Social Democratic Party of Germany . In 1929, the Hungarian composer Béla Reinitz (1878–1943) set the poem to music and the singer and actor Ernst Busch added it to his repertoire. He made the song world famous. It was previously in the program of the political Munich cabaret artists Die Elf Scharfrichter , but in the setting by Marc Henry . In 1968 it was set to music again by Werner Haentjes for the WDR television play "Rotmord" by Tankred Dorst and Peter Zadek ; It was sung by Wolfgang Neuss as the actor of Mühsam, whose interpretation was also published on CD.
In 1980 the folk band Zupfgeigenhansel set the piece to music on their live album. Admission free .
