Auf dem Mond ein Feuer is the fourth album by the German metal band Totenmond and was released in 2001 via Massacre Records . At the time of the recording, which lasted from April 9 to 13, 2001, the former bassist Roberto Garcia had already left the band, so Pazzer and Senz had to record the album together. In terms of content, the album is a synthesis of metal and punk music . The album was on 22 April 2013 due to the Slime - cover police SA-SS by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons indicated .

The album was later reissued in a box together with the previous album Reich in Rost .

With the album, Totenmond return lyrically to their roots. The first 14 songs are cover versions of the well-known German punk bands Slime , Ton Steine ​​Scherben , Razzia , Chaos Z , Inferno , EA80 , Boskops and OHL .

The remaining three songs are older pieces by Totenmond. “Marching” is a song that was written and composed by Pazzer and that dates back to the band's “wormwood” period (1983), which was recorded in a new and also metal style. “Past the red signal” is also an older work by Pazzer, which was created in 1990. “ Der Revoluzzer ” is a setting of the well-known poem by Erich Mühsam , who was murdered in 1934 in Oranienburg concentration camp . In terms of content, it is an allusion to the politics of the Social Democrats in the founding phase of the Weimar Republic during the proclamation of the Republic in Germany .

The lyrics of the songs are mostly directed against right-wing extremism and the German state. In terms of content, however, the songs are not without controversy, as some punk pieces have controversial content. In the song "Polizei SA SS" by Slime, German police officers are referred to as "modern Nazis" and compared with the SS and SA . With the line of text “Baader-Meinhof executed in the Stammheim concentration camp”, the Federal Republic of Germany is also portrayed as a totalitarian government. In addition, the death of Ulrike Meinhof and Andreas Baader is not depicted here as a suicide, but as an "execution" comparable to the Nazi judiciary, and the Stuttgart penal institution is equated with a concentration camp .

Equally controversial are the inferno cover “Linke Sau”, which only consists of the words “Left sow, left sow, left sow - if I catch you, it's over with you”, and the OHL piece “Der Osten” with it textual statements such as “I want a wall that protects the West”.

The intro to “Police SA SS” consists of war-like noises accompanied by sirens , which is probably a harder conflict with the police. At the end of “Marching”, a passage from a news program was added that reported an act of violence with a xenophobic and right-wing extremist background.

style

The style of the album can be attributed to metal, although the punk influences can be heard here most clearly of all Totenmond releases. The online music magazine Vampster , however, did not refer to the album as a metal album, but rather said that Totenmond, who started out with punk rock at the time, “recorded a pure punk album with 'Auf dem Mond ein Feuer'”. A similar view is shared by a review of a Swiss site, in which it was written that this album "still [cracks] like hell", "even if this is not a metal disc". Other reviews spoke of a “metal / hardcore garb”.

The record cover is itself a cover, or a homage / parody of the record cover of the album " Underground " by the American jazz musician Thelonious Monk . Similar to the three previous publications, the texts in the booklet are again in Gothic script, but this time all words are in lower case.
