Chaos Z was a German punk band from Stuttgart . It existed from 1980 to 1983 and then went on with the same line-up in the band Fliehende Stürme .

history

In the summer of 1980 Thomas Löhr, Andreas Löhr and Michael Ortner founded the band The Zeroes . In October of the same year they named their band in Chaos Z to. At the same time, they started to write their texts in German.

The band released their first EP Abmarsch in 1981 on Mülleimer Records . In 1982 Rock-O-Rama released the LP Ohne Gnade . The band rarely gave concerts and on the records no indication of the cast. Only with publications on samplers did it become known that the brothers Thomas and Andreas Löhr were the main members of the band.

In 1995, Andreas Löhr single-handedly (Michael Ortner had left the band and Thomas Löhr had died after finishing the recordings for the Fliehende-Stürme-CD Fallen ) again a Chaos-Z-album on the market. 45 Years Without Probation took up the hardcore style of the early 80s. In 2002, Weird System released the double LP Dunkle Strassen (1981-1995 complete), a compilation of all previously published Chaos-Z-pieces, which contained all the lyrics (except for the rocker Billy ) and a summary of the band's history by Andreas Löhr. However, on this one, as on the sampler Schlachtrufe BRD , the intro to war is missing ( but incorrectly cut out on Dunkle Strassen ), which was originally included on the LP Ohne Gnade .

style

Chaos Z was advertised as "Depro-Hardcore" by Weird System . The music of Chaos Z was initially pure hardcore punk , which may have been influenced by bands like Discharge . According to their own statements, the band members felt inspired by groups from the New Wave , and so more and more elements from the Dark Wave were used; the stylistic change led to the renaming of the band Flieende Stürme .

Typically for German punk of the early 1980s, Chaos Z largely eschewed musical virtuosity and instead limited itself to a few guitar chords. In addition to the usual staccatos, the monotonously pounding rhythm is particularly characteristic. The basic moods of the pieces by Chaos Z are anger and despair, which, however, are less often expressed in bold political statements than in gloomy depictions of personal experiences.
