The Snowman is a cartoon for children from 1982. It is about a boy who builds a snowman on Christmas Eve, who comes to life and flies with the boy to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus.
Except for the song Walking in the Air , which was composed by Howard Blake and sung by Peter Auty , the film is without words.
The film was produced as a cartoon adaptation using colored pencils for the book The Snowman by Raymond Briggs on the British broadcaster Channel 4 .
The film was nominated in 1983 for an Oscar in the category "Best Animated Short Film". In November 2011, Studio 100 Media re-released the film on DVD.
