Walking in the air

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The song Walking in the Air was founded in 1982 by Howard Blake for the animated film The Snowman ( The Snowman written), which on the same based children's book. The music theme accompanies a little boy and a snowman on their flight to the North Pole.

In the film, the song is performed by Peter Auty , who was then singing in the choir of St Paul's Cathedral . The 1985 single was sung by Aled Jones . It reached number 5 in the UK pop charts and marked the beginning of his music career. In the following years many more cover versions were produced in a wide variety of styles, from pop to metal.

“Walking in the Air” became an annual feature of British television. The song became so popular that a parodic version was used in a 2006 commercial for the soft drink Irn-Bru . In the amended text, the boy and the snowman fly over Edinburgh , Loch Ness and Glasgow . When the boy refuses to give the snowman any of the drink, the snowman takes the can from him and throws the boy down into the snow next to King George Square.
