Promo , actually Sebastian Hoff , (born April 12, 1976 ) is a Dutch hardcore techno producer and disc jockey (DJ). He used to publish under the name DJ Promo .

biography

Sebastian Hoff started his career as a DJ in 1992. At first he played at smaller gabber parties , some of which took place in the neighborhood or in sports halls. Here he made connections to other, better-known DJs in the scene. His first major success in 1997 with the celebrated Hoff Happy Hardcore - Track Shut Up! , which contains a sample from the hit Don't Speak by No Doubt . The track was released without specifying a pseudonym on the ID & T - Sublabel XXX Rated, the records released (each limited to 500 pieces), the tracks contained unlicensed samples. Was represented Shut Up! also on the CD compilation " Thunderdome XVIII - Psycho Silence", but listed there under his pseudonym "DJ Promo".

While Hoff 1996-1997 mainly "classical" Hardcore Techno and Happy Hardcore produced, he later concentrated on the genres mainstyle (under the pseudonym Unknown ) and especially Industrial Hardcore . Hoff often uses vocals samples from hip-hop tracks in his productions .

In the summer of 2000, Hoff and his colleague Martijn Mobron (alias DJ X-Ess and Boris Valeo ) founded the independent label The Third Movement , which made a name for itself in the gabber scene mainly through some industrial hardcore releases. Three years later, Mobron left the label and Hoff carried on without him.

In 2003 Hoff dedicated the track Hear This Cry (Dedicated To PPP) to the hardcore techno producer and DJ Peter-Paul Pigmans (alias 3 Steps Ahead ), who died of a brain tumor .
