action
The sculptor Paco creates communist sculptures using a machine. After he had a fatal accident at work, he was honored and buried with his work book placed in his grave. Paco's wife applies for a widow's pension, but her application is rejected because the work book is not available, and the grave cannot be opened until 2 years after the funeral. Paco's nephew secretly digs up the dead man. The pension problem is solved, but now there is another: How do you get rid of the corpse? For a new burial, the officer in charge requests an exhumation notice. The nephew strangles the bureaucrat and goes to a madhouse.
criticism
Alea presents its bizarre story with astonishing complexity. He provides insights into social grievances in a playful and entertaining way. [...] He uses the method of satire, making it visible by exaggerating the contours, where laughter is not an end in itself, but is causally related to insight and understanding.
“Thomas Knauf in film sheets . Berlin, autumn 1977 "
Alea is not satisfied with exposing individual phenomena to ridicule, but pillories the system of the administered world, turning it over until it seems to dissolve itself. His comedy is anarchic like that of his role models and aggressive, when in the end he literally goes at the bureaucrat's collar and kills him, bureaucratism.
“Peter B. Schumann in Handbook of Latin American Cinema . Frankfurt / Main, 1982 "
