The Doichtgut ( Russian Озорник ) is a short story by the Russian writer Maxim Gorki from 1897.

Dmitri Pavlovich Istomin, editor of a liberal paper with an edition of two thousand copies, is beside himself - in the presence of the publisher . The bachelor Nikolai Semjonowitsch Gwosdew, one of the typesetters , admits the act frankly: Nikolka, as the worker is called, has deliberately inserted a few words - the reader does not find out which - in a newspaper article.

The editor asks for a reason. Nikolka replies that Istomin writes about charity , writes 'Don't plunder the people!' He had to straighten that out because the workers in the print shop were occasionally cheated of their wages. The publisher listens to this and says that Nikolka is a socialist . He is contradicted. The “perpetrator” is nothing more than a do-it-all who even stood before the justice of the peace after he broke into seven lofts and was happy to see the pigeons flew away. And a woman, the trained stove fitter, Nikolka, while moving her stove , walled in a devil's music - consisting of a bottle with mercury and small iron parts. The ghost manufacturer Nikolka is also almost a lithographer , engraver and plumber , but in contrast to his playmates from childhood, he did not attend high school after the community school. One of these former playmates is the preacher's son “Mitka, the deacon's widow” - now Nikolka's editor Dmitri Pavlovich, whom he is the superior.

Nikolka apologizes privately to Mitka and motivates his “act”: “I am offended by the situation in which I find myself. Why am I less than you But only through my job. I speak of the injustice of life. "

Mitka doesn't like to hear that and turns to his editorial work.
