action

Gabriele earns her living as a flower seller. She recently fell in love with Ernst Vogler, a studio man who spends his holidays in the country with his uncle. When the two lovers have to say goodbye one day, they hope to see each other again soon. During the time of separation, Gabriele met the bonhomme Frank Sylvester, who was able to show her a completely different, much larger world. Since she believes that Frank must be very wealthy, she wants to part with Ernst and therefore writes him a farewell letter. Vogler's uncle has since passed away, but Ernst has hardly left anything behind. In return, the student rummages through a fortune in the family's secretary that once belonged to the great-grandfather. Now Ernst Vogler is rich, but has lost his sweetheart to that Mr. Sylvester.

For Gabriele, the closed marriage with Frank turns out to be anything but a haven of happiness. First she gets on the track of an ominous business relationship between her husband and another woman, then both their child begins to be very ailing. She takes her son to the country and wants to be helped by a doctor who was once her admirer. He cannot help the child, it dies. Thereupon Gabriele hurries back to her husband in the city. But this one got on the dog and was exposed as a cardsharp. As was usual in such circles at that time, he draws the conclusion from this loss of honor and kills himself. But Vogler, who is now a licensed doctor, can help her with a serious eye problem by means of an operation that saves her eyesight, and both of them find their way back together.

criticism

“' Der Wahn ist Kurz ' is a very fine subject with Maria Fein in the lead role. Romance novel of course! - Well processed and brilliantly staged, the piece looks impressive and elegant. Maria Fein is such a cohesive personality that her game grabs you and is carried away. The material is extremely interesting, the technology is excellent ... "
