Poor Kunrad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poor Kunrad is a poem by Heinrich von Reder from 1888, which describes the peasant uprising Poor Konrad . It served as a template for the song Wir sind des Geyer's black heaps , which became the songs of various left and right groups.

Historical background

The Duke of Württemberg had continuously curtailed the traditional rights of the village communities and excluded them from using the forest and the common property. Bad harvests resulted in high food prices. In order to ward off the country's impending bankruptcy, the duke introduced a consumption tax in 1514, which led to an uprising of the exploited and impoverished rural population, which has gone down in history as the uprising of "Poor Conrad". One of the ringleaders was the day laborer Peter Geis, known as Geispeter. He threw the new weights introduced with the tax hike into the Rems . Although the Duke canceled the tax, the population now demanded the return of the rights previously withdrawn and they demanded a say in the Württemberg state parliament.

The short-lived uprising, which began and ended at the same time in today's Weinstadt district of Beutelsbach, is considered a forerunner of the Peasants' War .

Text

Poor Kunrad

I am poor Kunrad
and come from near and far,
from Hartematt and Hungerrain
with spit and morning star.
I no longer want to be the servant
, serf, indulgent, without justice.
Equal law, that's what I want to obey,
from princes to farmers.
I'm poor Kunrad,
spit first,
ready to go!

I am poor Kunrad
under a spell,
I wear the Bundschuh on the pole,
I have a helmet and armor.
The Pope and Emperor do not hear me,
I now hold the court myself,
it is up to the castle, the abbey and the monastery,
nothing counts as the Holy Scriptures.
I'm poor Kunrad,
spit first,
ready to go!

I'm poor Kunrad, I've got
bad luck in my
pan , Heijoh! now it's off
to Pfaff and nobleman with sens and ax .
They beat me flat with beating
and satiated me with hunger,

they pulled my skin off my body and shamed my child and woman.
I'm poor Kunrad,
spit first,
ready to go!
