The only true city and area map of Duckburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The only true city and surrounding area of Duckburg is the title of a cartographic work by the cartographer Jürgen Wollina. The map is intended to be a coherent compilation of the cartographic information on the fictional location Duckburg from the comics by Carl Barks . The city map was presented for the first time in April 2008 at the DONALD congress .

Idea and creation

Jürgen Wollina began working on the city map in 1994. A city map of Duckburg should be created that corresponds to the information contained in the stories of the Disney illustrator Carl Barks, since only this is relevant for the Donaldists . First, maps of Duckburg drawn by Barks were compiled and all 52,000 images drawn by Barks were cataloged. This resulted in a chronology of the Barks maps with plan information , an image-accurate Barks / Fuchstext index and an index of the cartographic information of the drawings by Barks with map sketches. The cartographic information of a panel was recorded in a sketch. Duckburg - Your Bridges and The 20 Money Stores of Dagobert Duck appeared as further results . The information collected as small maps and sketches was then gradually combined into a city map. Jürgen Wollina was supported by the city planner Christian Pfeiler, who did the final artwork.

The plan was presented for the first time at the 31st DONALD Congress in Bielefeld in 2008, followed by minor corrections. The finished plan was first published by Die Zeit on November 27, 2008. At the end of December, the city map appeared in Der Donaldist special issue no. 55 and as a rolled map from DONALD. A revised version was published in August 2010 by Egmont Ehapa Verlag as a supplement to the also from Jürgen Wollina written book Travel Guide Entenhausen . The city map has been on display in the gallery in the old town hall in Schwarzenbach an der Saale since January 4, 2009 .

Jürgen Wollina died on November 3rd, 2015 at the age of 68.
