The cold breath of money is a German play by Alexander Eisenach . It premiered in 2016 in the author's production at the Schauspiel Frankfurt . Eisenach's original text is published by Rowohlt Theaterverlag .

The play The Cold Breath of Money is about the fate of the American gold rush town of El Plata. Its residents, the gold magnate Baxter, the sheriff Logan, the bounty hunter Sam and the prostitute Mariesol are confronted with the arrival of the stranger Nomoney. Against this background, all those involved reflect on the economic structures, violence and society in El Platas. New fronts are forming and views critical of capitalism fuel the conflict between Baxter and Nomoney.

Alexander Eisenach / Schauspiel Frankfurt

Alexander Eisenach's staging of his own text premiered on November 11, 2016 in the Kammerspiele of the Schauspiel Frankfurt. It was also the first performance of the play. The piece is occupied by Christian Kuchenbuch as Baxter, Sina Martens as Nomoney, Christoph Pütthoff as Sheriff Logan, Lukas Rüppel as Sneaky Sam and Verena Bukal as Mariesol. The singer and composer Bernhard Karakoulakis alias Boo Hoo accompanies the events on stage musically, including an acoustic cover version of the Motörhead piece Ace of Spades . The staging uses, among other things, live cameras and video projections by the filmmaker Oliver Rossol. The stage design is by Daniel Wollenzin.

Awards

Eisenach was awarded the 2016 Kurt Hübner Director's Prize for his production of The Cold Breath of Money . The reason is: How Eisenach builds his own western saloon out of all the pop-cultural flotsam, in which there is also an unmistakable climate of discourse, this reveals the stylish young artist, who also uses the common theatrical means by using them with Aplomb as the material for his amusement makes: He does not blindly follow the current trends of representation, but uses them like something potentially "historical" - like something that will reveal a sunken theater era in a few years, the "decade" of German theater.

Peter Kastenmüller's production of The Cold Breath of Money premiered on February 24, 2017 at the Theater am Neumarkt in Zurich . The cast: Sophie Arbeiter, Martin Butzke , Lotti Happle and Samuel Braun. Besim Morina designed the set.
