The award-winning Mouse Catcher is a 1948 American animated short film directed by Chuck Jones .

action

The mice Hubie and Bertie want to move into a large villa. When you look through the window you not only see the sleeping cat Claude Cat, but also its trophy cabinet as a feared and successful mouse hunter. They both decide to chase the cat out of the house.

Claude Cat is first hit with a log by a Bertie who has been let down through the fireplace, later inflated and attacked by a bulldog . The cat cannot always explain what has happened , so it throws away its bottle of catnip and goes to sleep again. Other attacks followed, including those by dynamite . Claude Cat calms down by reading from Sigmund Freud how to deal with nightmares correctly. Hubie and Bertie now nail all the furniture in the room to the ceiling so that the cat thinks it is going crazy. She clings to the ceiling in order to stand "the right way round" again. In other rooms, however, the furniture is normal, the view from the window shows Claude Cat twisted landscapes and even water - the mice are holding paintings upside down in front of the window and have set up an aquarium . Claude Cat runs out of the house in a panic. The mice move in and the first thing they do is roast cheese in the fireplace.

production

The award-winning mouse catcher was released on April 23, 1949 as part of the Warner Bros. animated film series Merrie Melodies in Technicolor . It was the first animated film in which Hubie and Bertie appeared together with Claude Cat.
