All as themselves

The White Raven - Max Mannheimer is a documentary by Carolin Otto about Max Mannheimer from 2009. It consists of the montage of two previous films by the director and further recordings of Mannheimer.

action

The film shows the Jewish survivor of the Holocaust , author and painter Max Mannheimer - apart from even earlier amateur recordings from the family film archive - in the period from 1991 to 2008. It shows Mannheimer's work in public and above all in schools and during his lectures by his experiences in the concentration camps of Dachau and Auschwitz . Also important scenes of the film are the respective encounters and dialogues with good friends, his now deceased brother Edgar and his two children. The film shows how Max Mannheimer tries to process his traumatic experiences with humor and wit and now sees it as his most important task to pass on his experiences to future generations.

criticism

"Full of empathy, what effort it takes to make your experiences public as a survivor and to act as a contemporary witness."

- Ulrich Kriest from the film service : Angelaufen.de

“Sensitive portrait of a Holocaust survivor who has made it his business to report on his experiences. A round portrait that takes both Mannheimer's suffering and humor as a guide. As a result, the documentation is in no way oppressive, but deeply touching. "

- BR-Online

The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating particularly valuable.
