Jacques Deray

Jacques Deray (born February 19, 1929 in Lyon , † August 10, 2003 in Boulogne-Billancourt ; actually Jacques Desrayaud ) was a French film director.

life and work

Jacques Deray mainly made crime films and was often called the Hitchcock of French cinema . He began his career as an assistant director, u. a. by Gilles Grangier , Marcel Camus and Jules Dassin . From his second self-directed film, Deray specialized largely in the genre of crime films. He worked several times with the most successful French actors of his time, Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo . Deray also took on responsibility in professional organizations such as the French Film Directors Association and was temporarily chairman of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival .
