Derek Vogel

Derek Vogel (born June 10, 1974 ) is a former American - German basketball player . The 1.98-meter-long winger was under contract with the German Bundesliga clubs Mitteldeutscher BC, Gießen, Bamberg and Trier, among others.

career

Vogel played basketball in his home country USA at Westbrook College (later incorporated into the University of New England ) in the NAIA league . He was twice named Player of the Year at the Mayflower Conference. With 45 points scored in one encounter, Vogel set a record for his university team, and in 2008 he was inducted into the “ Hall of Fame ” of the University of New England. In the 1995/96 game he had scored an average of 28.8 per game for Westbrook, making him the best scorer in the entire second NAIA division. In the course of his four years as a player at college, he scored a total of 3,051 points, a record for college basketball in the state of Maine .

Vogel started a career as a professional basketball player in 1996 and completed trial training with the NBA club Minnesota Timberwolves , then he joined the English club Hemel Royals in his first year as a professional. After stints in the US leagues USBL and CBA, Vogel moved to the Russian club Autodorozhnik Saratow at the beginning of 2000, for which he played for a few months.

For the 2000/01 season he accepted an offer from the German second division club Nuremberg and after a year in Franconia went to Mitteldeutscher BC (MBC), for which he was used in the basketball league  and in the European cup competition NEBL. In the Bundesliga, Vogel triumphed in 15 appearances with a point average of 17.1. In 2002 he moved to Avitos Gießen within the Bundesliga , but injured himself in the early stages of the season and was canceled. Ultimately, he should only play two Bundesliga games for Mittelhessen.

In the 2003/04 game year, Vogel was initially  under contract with Mabetex Prishtina in Kosovo . In October 2003 he returned to Germany and joined Bundesliga club GHP Bamberg . After five Bundesliga appearances in Bamberg (points average: 6.6 per match), Vogel switched to the second division club TSV Breitengüßbach during the season and came up trumps there with an average of 26.1 points per game. In the 2004/05 season, Vogel was back on the field in Germany's premier league and went  on a basket hunt for TBB Trier . In October 2004 he received German citizenship. Vogel played 27 Bundesliga appearances for Trier and scored 7.8 points per encounter.

In the 2005/06 season he was briefly under contract with the Swiss national team BC Boncourt before returning to the United States. In his home country he co-founded a website that put US athletes in contact with universities. He later worked for a medical distribution company and then held a managerial position for a personnel service provider in the medical industry.
