Derrimut is a district of Melbourne , Victoria and is 18 km from the center of Melbourne. It belongs to the administrative area of Brimbank City . At the 2016 census, the population was 8,269.

The previously predominantly agricultural area grew from around 2003 when the development of Brimbank Gardens began. Between 2001 and 2006 the population grew as new residential complexes were built and individual companies also settled in Derrimut. The place was named after the Aboriginal - arweet Derrimut named, who lived in the 19th century in the area of Melbourne.

From June 1, 1866 to 1918, there was a post office on the site, which was then still used by farmers. The site later served as a training and conference center for Imperial Chemical Industries (now Orica ). From 1964 to 1996 the site was used by the University of Melbourne for its Agriculture degree . The Victoria University offered in the late 1980s there courses.
