The Descabezado Grande ( The Great Decapitated ) is a 3953 m high volcano in the Chilean National Park Altos de Lircay . The national park is located in the Región del Maule .
Details
The volcano is located about 240 km south of Santiago de Chile and about 30 km west of the Argentine border. The crater diameter is between 1000 and 1450 meters. The last major eruption occurred in 1932.
Its small namesake, the Descabezado Chico volcano, is close to it, at an altitude of 3250 m ( 35 ° 31 ′ S , 70 ° 37 ′ W ).
The Descabezado Grande can be reached from the long-distance hiking trail of the Condor Circuit , which passes it about 5 km.
