Desiderius Rhodonensis
Desiderius Rhodonensis († September 17 between 670 and 673 in Croix (Territoire de Belfort) in France) was Bishop of Rouen or Rodez and is a saint.
Desiderius was probably Bishop of Rouen or possibly also of Rodez , the location can no longer be clearly determined because of the difficult to read original text. According to legends that emerged later, he was also Bishop of Rennes . He was on a pilgrimage in Rome with the deacon Raginfrid. On their return trip they were killed by robbers in the Ajoie (German Elsgau) near the town of Delle . Legend has it that Desiderius was beheaded while Raginfrid's body was pierced by lances.
The two martyrs were venerated as early as the 8th century. A regionally important pilgrimage site and the parish of Saint-Dizier-l'Évêque later came into being near their graves . The pilgrimage site was popular until the 19th century. Desiderius's tombstone and sarcophagus from the 7th century are still in an adjoining room and in the crypt of the church of Saint-Dizier-l'Évêque.
His feast day is September 17th.
