Deslandres is an impact crater south of the lunar front on the southern edge of Mare Nubium , east of Pitatus crater and northwest of Walter . It is a ring mountain with a diameter of over 200 kilometers, which is nevertheless only slightly noticeable due to its strong erosion .
Inside are the Hell and Lexell craters .
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1948 after the French astronomer Henri-Alexandre Deslandres .
