Sir Desmond Angus Swayne MP (born August 20, 1956 ) is a British politician . He belongs to the Conservative Party and is a supporter of Brexit .

Since 1997 he has represented the New Forest West constituency in the House of Commons .

Life

Sir Desmond Swayne went to school in South Ayrshire and Bedford . He then studied theology at the University of St Andrews .

From 1980 to 1987 Swayne taught economics at various schools. From 1988 to 1996 he was employed as a risk management systems manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland .

Swayne also made a career in the reserves of the British Army from 1987 and rose to the rank of major . In June 2003 he was drafted into the army as a member of the House of Commons and sent to the Iraq war . The then Conservative Party leader , Iain Duncan Smith, was delighted with the move.

After Swayne was defeated in the British general election in 1987 and 1992 in constituencies in Pontypridd and West Bromwich , he was elected in the 1997 British general election for the constituency of New Forest West in the county of Hampshire . Between 2005 and 2012 he was David Cameron's private secretary .

Swayne married Moira Cecily Teek in August 1987 in Buckinghamshire . They have a son Albert (born July 1989) and two daughters (born June 23, 1991 and March 2, 1997); The family lives in Burley, Hampshire.

Swayne is a supporter of the United Kingdom's exit from the EU and also campaigned for the forced break of its own parliament. However, when the UK Supreme Court lifted the parliamentary break initiated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson , Swayne proposed that this institution be abolished. When he later surprisingly spoke out against a no-deal Brexit , the Brexit Party led by Nigel Farage announced that it would challenge Swayne in the next election.

Swayne achieved international fame when he appeared to be asleep during a speech given by his EU-friendly party colleague Kenneth Clarke .

In September 2019, he sided with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the course of the debate about blackfacing (facial blackening) and said that blackfacing was completely acceptable. Eventually, he himself admitted to engaging in similar activities.
