Desmoplakin is a protein found in desmosomes .
properties
Desmoplakin is a component of desmosomal plaques . With the help of the anchor proteins plakoglobin and plakophilin, it establishes the connection between intermediate filaments and the proteins of the cell contact. These are e.g. B. Keratin filaments in epithelial tissues or desmin in heart tissue with the transmembrane proteins desmoglein and desmocollin of the cadherin family. This connects the cytoskeleton with the cell-cell contacts.
