Despina Petecel-Theodoru (born May 5, 1949 in Craiova ) is a Romanian musicologist .

Life

Petecel studied from 1969 to 1973 at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest with George Bălan , Liviu Brumariu , Viorel Cosma , Dan Constantinescu , Grigore Constantinescu , Myriam Marbe and Ioana Ștefănescu . From 1975 to 1989 she worked as an editor, then as a producer in the music department of the Romanian Radio. Since 1975 she has realized several series there, including a. Muzicienii noștri se destăinuie (1975–1986), Tradiție și modernitate în creația contemporană românească (1987–1989) and Muzica - sferă a interferențelor (since 1990).

Study trips took her to France, Italy, England, Hungary and the USA. In addition, she wrote reviews, critiques, composer portraits and interviews for various Romanian music magazines as well as musicological works and encyclopedic contributions (e.g. to Der Neue Pauly. Enzyklopädie der Antike , vol. 15, and Dicționar de termeni muzicali ).

She has received twice the Prize of the Romanian Composers and Musicologists Union (1995 and 2001), the Mihai Jora Prize (1991 and 2000), the Iosif Sava Prize (1998) and the George Enescu Medal (1995), Romanian Academy Award (2005), Cultural Merit Order with the rank of knight (2008) and the magazine “Actualitatea muzicală” Award (2016).
