Destructoid is a website set up in March 2006 by Yanier Gonzalez , a Cuban-American cartoonist and author, as a blog for video games has been established. The website is part of the Enthusiast Gaming Network.

Content and functions

Destructoid 'is divided into the sections news and reviews, user blogs, videos, the forum and chat area, the marketplace and the area to find members to play against each other. Destructoid also produced several web video and live stream formats on sites like Twitch . On average, around 50 articles are published per day.

history

Destructoid was founded by Yanier Gonzalez. so that he could participate as a press representative at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2006. After Gonzalez was rejected, he began writing editorials and drawing cartoons that were picked up by established gaming blogs such as Joystiq and Kotaku . In 2007 the website was restarted with user blogs, forums and a team of writers. The site still exists in this form today. In 2017 the site was bought by Enthusiast Gaming . In 2017 the website was taken over by the Enthusiast Gaming Network from Toronto .

External perception

The website is known for the robot mascot and after E3, Gonzalez became known as Mr. Destructoid. After the Alexa rank, the website is the 14,008 most viewed page on the Internet.

Fundraisers

In 2008, author Jim Sterling started a live-streamed gaming marathon that donated $ 3,000 to young cancer patients. The action was continued in 2009 by the author Niero and raised $ 4835. In 2010, the site started a 24-hour gaming marathon for Extra Life that raised $ 6,000 for children's hospitals in Texas . In 2011 the campaign continued. This time a sum of 6909 US dollars came together.

In 2012, Destructoid raised $ 7,000 for Habitat for Humanity in a 56-hour livestream .
