The ridderlige academy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Det ridderlige Akademi ( Danish for "The Knightly Academy") was a knight academy at Nytorv in Copenhagen from 1691 to 1710 . The academy was officially inaugurated on April 15, 1692, the king's birthday .

On the day it was founded, the academy took over the academic library of the dissolved Sorø Akademi . It was led by a chief steward. From 1691 to 1695 this was Wiglas von Schindel. From 1698 Christian von Lente served as chief steward.

In 1710, the knight academy closed due to a lack of demand. The Højesteret then moved into the building and in 1727 it was taken over by the royal orphanage .
