Location of Detern in the district of Leer

Deternerlehe is a district of the municipality of Detern in the joint municipality of Jümme in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

history

The area around today's village was initially only used for agriculture. The Grüssing family first settled at the end of the 18th century. In 1816 there were 11 houses, in 1852 there were 37 houses in which 191 residents lived.

In 1816 the first school for school children up to the age of 10 was established. Older children continued to go to school in neighboring Detern. In 1865 the school, which had become too small, was abandoned and replaced by a larger school building. From 1873 it was used as an independent elementary school, independent of the school in Detern.

At the end of the 1950s, Deternerlehe experienced an economic boom when the Branne, Leegmoors and Ostmoors were drained. Until then, these areas were under water from winter to spring. After the land had been drained, it was used more intensively and better for agriculture.

Origin of name

The name Deternerlehe is made up of the settlement name Detern and the name Lehe . Lehe stands for "separated" and thus means "something separated from the village of Detern". This describes the geographical conditions, because the Lehe near Detern lies on a smaller Geest ridge, which is separated from the larger Geest Ridge with the town of Detern by lowland moors.

Sports

BTV 1975 Deternerlehe eV , founded in 1975, is a Boßel association and with around 200 members is one of the largest associations in the Jümme community.
