Stickhausen is a district of the municipality Detern in the joint municipality Jümme in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

history

Between 1432 and 1435, Stickhausen Castle was built by the Hamburgers to secure their trade. In 1453 it was handed over to the chief Ulrich Cirksena along with other castles in the Emsiger and Moormerland . In 1461 Count Gerd von Oldenburg and Bishop Johann von Münster attempt to take the castle. In 1478 the upper castle was expanded and in 1498 Count Edzard I the Great ordered the erection of the great tower. In the Saxon feud , the castle was taken by the Brunswicks. Edzard's attempts to recapture the castle in 1514 and 1516 failed. After the end of the armed conflict, the Peace of Zetel, Stickhausen Castle was returned to the Count.

In the following years, stones from Uplengen Castle and the Coming Hasselt were used to build the kennel.

In the Thirty Years' War (1622) Stickhausen was occupied by the Mansfelder. In the period from 1637 to 1649 it was used as a base by Hessian troops.

After the East Frisian Princely House died out in 1744, East Frisia fell to Prussia, as a result of which the castle was razed.

The tower of the castle has been preserved and now serves as a museum.

On January 1, 1973 Stickhausen was incorporated into the Detern community.
