Carl Bozi (born April 10, 1809 in Friedrichsdorf ; † May 27, 1889 in Bielefeld ) was an entrepreneur and founder of the Vorwärts spinning mill in Bielefeld.

Life

Bozi was the son of Michael Bozi (1775–1862), a former smallholder originally from Hungary who had managed to set up a grain and yarn trade. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Bozi joined his father's linen yarn trade . In 1832 he went to Belfast to gain new experience in what was then the center of the linen industry. Bozi then set up a trading company in Ireland and exported machine yarn to Germany .

After returning to Germany, Bozi and his brother Gustav founded the Vorwärts spinning mill in 1850 with capital that came mainly from their own family . He encountered massive resistance from the handspinners of the Ravensberger Land , who saw their sales opportunities threatened. Initially supported by Irish specialists , the first steam- powered flax spinning mill in Germany was created. Carl Bozi was mainly active in the commercial sector.

After technical and economic difficulties, the Bozi brothers had to sell their shares and withdraw from the company. The Vorwärts spinning mill later recovered and was a successful company until the First World War . After retiring, Carl Bozi worked in the construction, brewing and cement industries.

In 1852 he had the representative Villa Bozi built in the Irish country house style.

His grave is in the old cemetery .
