from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Detlef Günther (born November 21, 1963 in Köthen ) is a German chemist in the field of analytical chemistry and has been a full professor at ETH Zurich since February 2008 . There he is Vice President for Research and Business Relations at the ETH Zurich.

Life

Günther attended schools in Lübs and Zerbst . In 1987 he wrote his diploma thesis on laser microanalytical investigation of the aluminum distribution in the vertebrae lumbar of 5/6 nephrectomized and non-nephrectomized rats . In 1990 he completed his doctorate on interpretation and optimization of sampling and transport as well as calibration for quantitative LM-ICP-OES . In October 1998 he went to ETH Zurich as an assistant professor. There he became associate professor in 2003 and full professor for trace element and microanalysis at the Laboratory for Inorganic Chemistry in 2008. Günther is Head of the Chemistry and Applied Biosciences Department and Vice President for Research and Business Relations at ETH Zurich. He is a leader in the field of laser ablation ICP-MS, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. He has developed a portable laboratory with a laser and diaphragm pump to collect and analyze material samples on site.
