Deusenberg

The old Huckarde landfill is a landfill that has been used for decades. In addition to the actual industrial and domestic waste, large quantities of rubble and rubble from destroyed houses were stored there, especially after the Second World War . A total of 11 million m³ of material thus accumulated on an area of 44 hectares.

At the beginning of the recultivation , an approximately four meter thick insulation layer was applied to the 1000 m by 500 m large garbage dump that rises around 50 m above the landscape. The Deusenberg was opened to the public on May 20, 2004. Since then, when the weather is good, you can meet many mountain bikers every day on the EDG mountain bike arena who pursue their hobby on the training trail (for beginners), on the single trail or Biker-X (the more advanced).

In addition, up to 112 m, according to some sources even 120 m above sea level. Use NN high Deusenberg as a viewing platform. With good visibility you have a view far beyond the city limits of Dortmund. Some residents of the neighboring districts of Huckarde , Mengede , Nette and Bodelschwingh discovered the platform in order to celebrate New Year's Eve or to enjoy the night view.

From the end of 2016, Entegro Photovoltaik-Systeme GmbH built a solar system with a nominal output of 3.56 MW on the Deusenberg , which was officially put into operation on June 8, 2017. The electricity generated is fed into the network of the local energy supplier DSW21 .
