German-American Institute Nuremberg

The German-American Institute Nuremberg eV (DAI) serves as an intercultural meeting place for Germans and Americans living in the metropolitan region of Middle Franconia . In its events it provides information about US history, politics and culture. Other focal points include language courses and tests, advice on stays in the United States, and running an English-language public library . As a binational institution, the DAI is also financed by the City of Nuremberg , the Free State of Bavaria and the Foreign Office in Berlin as well as the US Embassy.

history

The "America House Nuremberg" was founded in 1946 by the US military government for the purpose of "re- education ", ie the promotion of democratic ideas in post-war Germany . Like the other " America Houses " in Germany, it also served to spread anti-communist propaganda during the Cold War . In 1962 it was converted into a binational association and renamed "German-American Institute".

The cultural event program includes lectures, readings and discussion groups. Its library has 9,000 books and DVDs in English . As the official "Education USA Center", the DAI provides information on study visits and internships in the United States and is an accredited partner of the US government for the acceptance of language tests ( TOEFL , TOEIC , GMAT ).
