German Diabetes Aid - People with Diabetes (DDH-M) is the largest German patient organization that belongs to the overall organization diabetesDE - German Diabetes Aid . In addition to the German Diabetes Society (DDG) and the Association of Diabetes Advisory and Training Professions in Germany (VDBD), which represent doctors and diabetes advisors as specialist societies, the DDH-M represents the patient column within diabetesDE. The aim of the association is to strengthen self-help, to improve the quality of life and the quality of care. The association has the legal form of a registered association (eV) and is recognized as non-profit in the sense of the tax code. Across all indications, the DDH-M is a member of the BAG Selbsthilfe and the German Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband . DDH-M currently has around 18,000 members.

history

DDH-M was founded on June 8, 2012 in Berlin , is registered as an association at the Charlottenburg District Court and recognized as non-profit in the sense of the tax code. Founding members were three former regional associations of the German Diabetic Association , the regional associations Bremen, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate as well as the patient column of diabetesDE. On July 1, 2013, the North Regional Association, which covers the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, joined. On November 23, 2014, the regional association of Central Germany was founded in Leipzig, covering the federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

The federal office is based in Berlin. The board consists of five volunteers, including a chairman, a deputy chairwoman and a chief financial officer.

Regional associations

The association has five regional associations in nine federal states: the regional association of Bremen, Central Germany (Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia), North (Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein), North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The DDH-M calls

  • a national diabetes plan,
  • Voting rights for patients in the Federal Joint Committee ,
  • political strengthening of self-help, in particular by integrating self-help into the health system,

  • Consideration of quality of life when deciding on care.

Organs of the association

DDH-M has two organs, the delegates' assembly and the board.

The delegates are made up of their own delegates and those provided by the member organizations. The board of the DDH-M and the state chairmen are also delegates. The assembly of delegates should be convened once a year. The delegates are elected for four years each.

The tasks consist of the election and deselection of the board of directors, the control of the board of directors and the passing of resolutions on motions, in particular on amendments to the articles of association.

Outlines

In addition to individual and family members, regional associations, self-help groups and other organizations can also become members of the DDH-M organization. There are also sponsoring memberships.

DDH-M currently has five regional associations that cover the areas of nine federal states, and numerous self-help groups with a total of approx. 18,000 members.

Events / services

DDH-M has been organizing the World Diabetes Day in Berlin since 2012 . The chairman of the board is a member of the jury for the award of the "Thomas Fuchsberger Prize", which is awarded annually at the diabetes donation gala in Berlin for outstanding commitment.

All full and basic members receive extensive information about the disease and free information brochures. All full members of the DDH-M also receive the membership magazine DDH-M aktuell every two months . You will also receive support in legal and insurance matters related to the disease diabetes mellitus and discounts such as reduced admission to events or when purchasing the diabetes journal or DIABETES-Focus , discounts when buying a new car and the diabetes health pass. In addition, DDH-M supports self-help groups that are members of the association.

The state association of North Rhine-Westphalia offers the Diabetes Info-Mobil, which provides information at events on the subject of diabetes and carries out risk prevention (health checks) with specialist staff. The info mobile can be rented by interested parties, pharmacies and entrepreneurs, also for occupational health care. Since 2013, the Diabetes Info-Mobil has been offering diabetes advice tailored to the needs of migrants through the project "Diabetes Advice on Wheels".
