The World Diabetes Day (Engl. World Diabetes Day) was first celebrated on 14 November 1991, provided by the beginning under a special motto. World Diabetes Day has been an official United Nations day since 2007 .

history

World Diabetes Day was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global day of action to draw attention to the increasing spread of diabetes mellitus . November 14th was chosen as the date, that is the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting , who, together with Charles Best, discovered the vital insulin in 1922 .

On December 20, 2006, the General Assembly of the United Nations passed resolution 61/225, thereby declaring November 14 to be a United Nations Day annually from 2007 onwards. Diabetes mellitus is the second disease after HIV / AIDS that has received an official UN tag.
