German Poet Academy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Poet Academy (also Wartburgkreis ) was founded in May 1932 by Börries von Münchhausen and Hans von der Gabelentz and was intended to be a corrective counter-force against the (in their opinion) too democratic and internationally oriented Prussian Academy of the Arts . According to his ideas, nationalist writers and politicians should meet there and network with one another.

Their seat was on the Wartburg , whose castle captain was Münchhausen's cousin Hans von der Gabelentz in the early 1930s.

The days of poetry organized by the academy took place at the Wartburg in 1932, 1933, 1935, 1936 and 1937, with the “ Silver Wartburg Rose ” being awarded in a poetry ceremony . The first Wartburg rose was awarded to Heinrich Lilienfein .

In the course of the seizure of power and the associated synchronization , the Prussian Academy of Poetry, Department 3 of the Prussian Academy of the Arts, was reorganized in 1933 and declared the "German Academy of Poetry". Many members had to leave, including Thomas Mann and Alfred Döblin . The Prussian Minister of Education, Bernhard Rust , appointed other poets such as Werner Beumelburg , Agnes Miegel , Börries von Münchhausen and Hans Carossa . The latter did not accept the appeal. Von Münchhausen gained so much influence on the cultural policy of the National Socialists .
